Weissbrau @ Straits Quay Penang

Last weekend we went to Weissbrau, the german restaurant at Straits Quay Penang. It's good to have a few other german restaurants around town as previously there is only Ingolf @ Tj Bungah. I just love the roasted pork knuckle even though it's like a replica of chinese roasted pork. :)

German beer Franziskaner 300ml - There are a few German beer sold in the house but my hubby prefer this 'old man' beer :)

Crispy German Pork Knuckle RM38 - The knuckles was a bit small in size compare to the one i'd in bavarian (the curve). Somehow i still prefer the knuckles from bavarian bierhauss. The skin of this knuckle was not that crispy comparatively but the meat is still tender enough. Here you can choose the 2 sidelines. I'd sauerkraut and roesti (swiss dish - roughly grated potato cook like hash brown style)

German sausages with 2 sidelines (buttered grilled vege + spatzle). This pork sausages were good and served with BBQ sauce. Spatzle is a german food and it is a type of egg noodle.

Restoran Ah Pek Lee Kou Hock @ Sitiawan (near Kg Koh)

On the way back after Pei Yee (my hubby's youngest sister)'s wedding ceremony at Swiss Garden Damai Laut, the whole family stopped by Sitiawan to have seafood lunch. This restaurant was recommended by Pei Yee but she and her hubby was unable to join as they need to fetch the photographer back to Ipoh first. The restaurant is divided into two sections: air-conded and non-airconded. Service was a bit slow probably that's how the restaurant name came about...hehe... It took about 1hr before we get our food even though there were a couple of tables before us only. Food taste was good. The seafood are fresh. Below are some of their specialties besides mudskippers (which we didn't manage to order)

The signature chili sauce from Kg Koh used in the restaurant

Steamed Fresh Squid ('Pak Cheok' style) - fresh and only fresh squid can be steamed this way

Curry Grouper Fish - not to boost about ...just average as the coconut milk is more than the chili...lack of oomph.... :)

Deep-fried Oyster (Or Chen) with egg (without the tapioca flour type) - can taste many small  baby oysters in it

Stir-fry small kai lan - many of us were guessing what vege is this as it doesn't look like kai lan. I feel that it looks more like spinach with more crunchy bite. It's fresh and nice.

Steamed prawn with egg - fresh and good
Steamed Grouper - Very fresh and the fish meat very smooth and soft :)

Dragon One @ De Garden Ipoh

During Chinese New Year holiday when back to my hubby's hometown (Ipoh), we went to new happening place called De Garden. There you can find varieties of food/cuisines (paparich, wong kok, daorae, tutti frutti, Oh Sushi, etc) and fashion boutiques. After going through the whole complex, we finally settled into Dragon One Shanghainese restaurant.  The price is reasonable for a restaurant and overall the food taste good. There is only 10% Service Charge and no Gov Tax. You can give a try!

Avocado with Kataiti RM5.80 - Crispy and Sweet

Steamed Shanghainese Meat Dumpling With Superior Soup RM6 - nice but still can't beat Dragon-I's.

Steamed Prawn Dumpling With Spinach RM4.80

Deep-fried prawn roll RM4.80 - Crispy and good

Baked Prawn Dumpling with Cheese RM5.80

Minced Pork and Spicy Sauce La Mian RM9.80 - It not spicy for me, it's tasted like szechuan hot and sour soup. Still quite appetizing.

Fried Rice with Salted Egg Yolk RM9.80 - Coated goldenly with nice taste of salted egg yolk
