Gem Indian Restaurant @ Bishop Street Penang

Last Tuesday, before we went for the orchestra at Dewan Sri Pinang, we went to GEM restaurant for dinner. It is an Indian cuisine restaurant. The food here is quite good and price is reasonably as well, it's worth for a try :-)

Mango Lassi RM7.90 - It taste different than other than I tried before. It's thick and with little spice taste. It's nice and refreshing.

Fish bryani - rice is fluffy and nice with chunck of fish cutlets

Chicken tikka masala - It's taste good and not too spicy :)

Stir-fry mix vege

                                                                        Garlic Naan

                                                                       Directions
From Penang bridge, follow the jelutong expressways towards Weld Quay until you reach the roundabout of the Penang clock tower. Go straight at 12 o'clock at the roundabout and go straight until you reach a junction where on your left is Bank Negara. Follow the road on and at the next junction, turn left (AIA on your left) into Bishop Street. Drive for about 300m and the restaurant is on your left. It is a corner shophouse off King Streets.

MONrods Restaurant @ D'Piazza Bayan Baru

Recently my husband and I visited a newly opened restaurant at D'Piazza Bayan Baru (behind PISA). The restaurant look fine-to-dine from the outside. On the 2nd photo, there was some history about the restaurant. From the menu, there is nothing fancy about the food, it's almost same like going to any 'kopitiam'. Anyway, we just asked the waitress to get us their house's specialties. Price here is reasonably ok. So here you go:

At first, we thought it was the teh tarik my hubby ordered from the look of it, but it's actually my latte. After one sip, it taste like diluted no-sugar oldtown kopitiam hazelnut white coffee

This is the teh tarik. After you stir it, you really get the teh tarik look. :-) From the food we ate on this visit, this teh tarik was the most ok item on our table
This is so-called the Unique Chicken Rice. The roasted chicken meat was hard and the tomato rice which does not have the tomato taste
As the photo tell us this is the chicken chop (mushroom gravy). This dish took more than 15 mins. Not a good piece of chicken meat. Too much flour on the skin and little meat. While we were eating, we need to always chase away the flies.... :(

Tiramisu @ Alexis The Garden

On my recent KL trip, we went to try the Tiramisu cake at Alexis of The Garden. This was recommended by Mei Lin as she mentioned it has been the best tiramisu she tried before. It was indeed a great piece of  cake. Thanks ML :-) I like it too but if the nuts was not that much, it would have been perfect :-)

Tiramisu Cake ~RM11 (can't really remember the exact figure). It's worth a try!

Restoran Bavarian Bierhaus @ TheCurve

This is our 2nd visit to this german restaurant. I like the roasted pork knuckle and the sausages here & as well as the beer! but still, the best pork knuckle I'd was in Blackforest Germany. :-). Anyway, this is good place to have dinner if you like germany food :)

Roasted Pork Knuckles Combo RM70 (2 persons portion) - besides the pork knuckle, there is also pork steak, german sausages, pickled radish & potatos.

The Malt beer RM25 - smooth and refreshing. During happy hour (5pm - 8pm), they only charge RM25 and after 8pm, they charged RM28. There are two main types of beer here, mild and dark. I prefer the mild ones (as shown) as it's more smoother and less bitter. Normally, the waiter/waitress there will recommend the mild one for ladies and the darker ones for the guys.

Delicious @ OneUtama (New Wing)

Last week we went to KL and tried a few restaurants' food while we were there. On our first lunch there, we had our lunch @ Delicious of 1Utama with my sister-in-law and her going-to-be in-laws..(a bit complicating...huh??hehe). Thanks to my sister-in-law's going-to-be-husband for the lunch treat! As for the pasta that we took, even it's named with spicy but it's not spicy probably just some have that tingling touch of the chillies. It's quite a big portion too. I find that the price here a little bit dearer compare to Penang restaurants but I guess that's the living standard in KL....

Spicy Seafood Pasta - reasonably good especially the prawns (succulent and fresh) but the squid were a bit hard and overcooked.

Spicy Crabmeat Pasta
Hot Lemongrass Tea - quite refreshing

banana smoothies

D Kuang Seafood Restaurant @ Bukit Mertajam

Last Sunday evening we went to D KUANG Seafood restaurant at Kampung Baru Bukit Mertajam for dinner. We arrived there around 6.30pm. Most of the tables already being occupied. We proceed with our food and drink orders.

Salted duck egg pork rib RM8 - don't judge its taste by its look. This taste great!

Water Cress Steamed Soup - RM4

Sizzling Tofu - taste wise average

Honey Lemon Juice RM2.50 - the combination is just nice and it's refreshing good

Stir-fry potato leaves with garlic

sunset scenery taken outside of the restaurant after dinner

Three Taste Kopi & Two Two Ice @ Permatang Tinggi

Based on PenangTuapui.com, we went to search for these two types of drinks at Permatang Tinggi. It's sold from a white van located under a big shady tree, just beside the Pasar Awam Permatang Tinggi, Bukit Mertajam. To get to the place, just go straight all the way straight from Bukit Tengah and when you reach Permatang Tinggi (after Bukit Minyak Industrial Park). You will see the Pasar Awam on your left and turn left into the junction and you have reach the place. The place was packed with people. Even though, we have finished our food, both our drinks has not arrived. So we decided to takeaway the drinks but still need to wait for > 10 minutes for our drinks to be ready and pack. The drink stall's business too good.

3 bi Kopi RM2 (Price increased by 20cents since PenangTuaPui recommendation) - mixture of milo, white coffee and kopi-O (felt a bit dizzy after taking it probably due to double dose of coffee. :-)

Two-Two Ping RM2.00 Oats in Milk Tea. I prefer this one than the 3-bi Kopi. It tasted sweet and nice. Didn't know that oats can be mixed in milk tea.
The drink seller
Look closer at the picture and you can see the oats floating in the milk tea

Besides the drink stalls, there are few others stalls that sell chee cheong fun, laksa, hokkien mee, char koey teow, wan tan mee, jawa mee and etc. The chee cheong fun is averagely ok.

Laksa is generally good
Jawa Mee - not good

Restoran Makan Laut Cia Xiang @ Bukit Tambun

Yesterday was my lunar birthday, so my hubby took me to this seafood restaurant at tambun. It's called Restoran Makanan Laut Cia Xiang. After exit Bukit Tambun toll from Juru, you will reach a small roundabout. Go straight (12 o'clock) and at the next junction, turn right and you will reach the restaurant. Actually, you can see the restaurant from the roundabout itself.

Hammer to use to knock at the crab

Claypot Crab Rice RM44 (2 persons portion) - It smells good and when the lid was opened to get you started. The crab was quite fresh. The rice get its fragrant from lots of dried shrimp, mushroom and some cube pork.
Stir-fry small pak choy with garlic RM6 - fresh and crunchy

Edo Ichi Japanese Cuisine @ Island Plaza Penang

Last Monday about 12 of us went to Edo Ichi Japanese Cuisine Restaurant at Island Plaza Penang to celebrate TC's birthday. It was quite a fun and great gathering, with many laughters :D. Back to the restaurant, it has nice authentic japanese environment with the color theme of brown. I guess the brown color range makes the restaurant looks more authentic...hehe. According to Kevin Han, this restaurant is under the same management as AZUMA at QueensbayMall. You are only entitled for some discount if you work in Island Plaza building. We went there during lunch time so most of us ordered the set lunch. The set lunch ranges from RM25 - RM40. All set lunch comes with the same sidelines (chawanmushi, miso soup, rice, salad, radish pickles and fruits). Overall most of us thinks that the food here was reasonably good but the gingko in the chawanmushi was very bitter.

Ocha (green tea) RM1.00
Tempura Set RM26 & GYU Amiyaki Set RM25
Sashimi Set RM30 - It's relatively small portion compare to the photo shown on the menu

Gyu Amiyaki Set RM25 -taste good
Salmon teriyaki set RM28 - it's what a salmon teriyaki should taste like. Probably due to the salmon is grilled and covered with quite a lot of the teriyaki sauce.
